Yesterday, I brought Kenji out for a really nice long stroll along the beach. It was exactly what I wanted to do when I woke up. Usually, Saturday mornings are tennis mornings but yesterday, I really wanted to spend some time alone, to reflect and to take a nice morning stroll with K.
I likened this stretch of waters and the way leading up to it (via an underpass across the expressway) similar to the ECP stretch, where you basically get across to the beach via the underpass at the Mandarin Gardens stretch in Singapore. Even the feel of the underpass is the same. It's about a nice 5 - 8 min walk from Rihan Heights, and I decided to bring him for a nice stroll. :)
The stretch along the expressway; the Ministry of Interior with the 2 flags, the Grand Mosque and the underpass leading to the beach.
It's really a beautiful morning. :)
There are plenty of restricted areas here in the UAE where dogs are not allowed. Hence, to be honest, it was with that little bit of uncertainty that I decided to bring K close to the waters. I am not quite sure if dogs are permissible on this rather isolated stretch, and I did not see any "no dogs" sign when I recce-ed some evenings back :) Treading on thin grounds here, because I really don't want to incur trouble or be complained against.
The beach front in the dusk... also very beautiful. :)
And so, K and I crossed over.
The morning vs the dusk. Contrast - each beautiful and conjures up different emotions.
The dawn, the light, the breeze refreshes and speaks of the hope ahead. I was really just soaking in the nice morning, thinking about nothing in particular, just enjoying spending time with K.
And the dusk... speaks of the close of the day, winding down, giving thanks and of rest. :)
We crossed some stretches of nicely-lined trees to reach the beach.
Again, another cool feeling. One of these days, I will run along this stretch and see where I get to.
Certainly Kenji was happy, busying himself with the different whiffs (of meat) - leftover litter from bbqs and camps. So I was busy too - tugging him away from his treasures.
I titled this "Some things don't change" because my hypothesis was proven right, that Kenji still remembers the Pasir Ris beach.
I've brought him to Pasir Ris beach every weekend without fail to run in SG, and he always thinks that there are more treasures in the waters. He always likes to run to the waters and it's amusing to see how agitated he is, thinking that a bubbling bottle, a rock, some weeds could resemble toys or balls that he absolutely must get his paws and teeth on.
This is Pasir Ris beach 2017... just before I brought him to Abu Dhabi. :)
K2018 - he apparently found something in the waters. Initially it was an interest in that piece of rock a few metres away. Then it became some obscure matter in the sand. :-D
Kenji hasn't changed in his devotion towards searching for his treasures. He also still remembers that water = seeking treasure. The way his ears perk up, his little stubby nose starts sniffing and twitching around, the determined tug away from the leash and the muscles in the legs forcing me to follow, the high-alert signs his whole muscular doggy body portrays, that vigorous wags of his bushy tail when he captures his prize, and that finally that most happy look when he secures it in his mouth - are way too amusing and beautiful to watch. 💗
Exercise is very important to the dog. An exercised and tired dog is happy, calm and healthy (according to Cesar Milan). And so, obviously K was very very happy yesterday. He reached home, basked in the sun... that smug and kingly handsome face.
